Pocket Casts is now also available on Android smartwatches. Previously, the extensive podcast app on the wrist was only available for the Apple Watch. However, a paid subscription is also required for the Wear OS version.

Pocket Casts for Android smartwatches released

The podcast app Pocket Casts has had a pretty checkered history, with ownership changes and a few behind-the-scenes issues. The open source project now belongs to Automattic, the company behind WordPress. This had announced a further development of the app some time ago. Among other things, should also Android smartwatch owners can enjoy Pocket Casts come.

That’s exactly what happened now. A first beta version of the app is now available, which supports Wear OS for the first time. Both Wear OS 3 and older versions are reported to be compatible. This means that the app can be used on Samsung Galaxy Watch models or the Google Pixel Watch, among others. As long as Wear OS is installed, Pocket Casts should work (source: 9to5Google).

Pocket Casts is also used on Android smartwatches cross-platform podcast app. They describe themselves as “the most powerful podcast platform in the world”. Content can be downloaded for offline listening. Auto-download of new episodes is also offered. Under Wear OS, the app also works largely independently of an accompanying smartphone.

Pocket Casts for Wear OS by subscription only

Just like the standalone app for Apple Watch, Pocket Casts is for Wear OS Limited to Pocket Casts Plus subscribers. This costs 4.49 euros per month. If you opt for an annual subscription, you pay 44.92 euros (instead of 53.88 euros). In both cases, Pocket Casts offers a 14-day trial period.
