Players agree: This was the best God of War clone
God of War’s success has inspired several other games. Among them is the action-adventure Dante’s Inferno for PS3 and Xbox 360. 13 years after its release, fans like to remember the unusual game.
A Catholic God of War
Not every game is a success upon release. Sometimes it takes more than a decade until a game has matured accordingly among the players. Such a case is the action-adventure Dante’s Inferno.
The game was developed in the wake of God of War and was released in February 2010 for the then console generation. However, with reviews of around 75 percent (see Metacritic), Dante’s Inferno was not a high-flyer. The game was also not commercially successful.
Despite having its own comic series and even its own animated film.
Today, a good 13 years later, Dante’s Inferno is enjoying itself almost cult status. Various Reddit users celebrate the unusual action-adventure in their own thread:
In numerous commentaries, Dante’s Inferno is described as a real gem, or equal to it a Catholic God of War designated. Above all, the crazy level design, the concept of the game and the explicit depiction of nudity extensively celebrated.
Many players remember it above all the final boss and his monstrous genitals.
In addition, almost all Reddit users mourn the lack of success of the game and the resulting death of the brand.
The future of Dante’s Inferno
It is currently very unlikely that Dante’s Inferno will make a comeback. The responsible developer studio was shut down by EA in 2017 and even an HD remaster is currently not planned.
However, Xbox fans can catch up on Dante’s Inferno via the console’s backwards compatibility. Appropriately, the action-adventure is too available through Xbox Game Pass. However, this is only the Xbox 360 version of the game.
