Play PlayStation games on your smartphone without a console

Play PlayStation games on your smartphone without the intervention of the console. Sony is working on it.

Playing a game traditionally from your living room with the PlayStation nearby is no longer necessary. With Remote Play you can play games on the go, with the PlayStation serving as the host at your home. However, there are plans to take it to the next level. Namely playing PlayStation games on your smartphone without the intervention of a console.

Sony would like to bring the PlayStation Now service to the smartphone. The Verge reports on this based on documents. From your smartphone you will then have access to 450 PlayStation 3 games with PS4 titles at a later stage. The games are offered via streaming, just like with the principle of Google Stadia. So it’s not so much about the hardware of your smartphone. Of course it helps to have a phone in the higher segment for the best experience.

Sony has been working on the idea since 2017. Unfortunately, no decision has been made to date. The Japanese have to keep up, because they are not the only ones who are working on this principle, of course. There are still the necessary challenges. The games of the PlayStation 3 and 4 were developed with a DualShock controller in mind. The touchscreen can simulate a controller, but it will never play as well as having a physical controller in your hands.
