Pixel Buds Pro update brings these 2 new features to the earbuds

Google has rolled out an update for the Pixel Buds Pro that makes spatial audio and head tracking available for the earbuds. We explain what you can do with these functions.

What is spatial audio and head tracking?

Spatial audio makes it seem as if sound is coming from multiple directions. Think of it as a layer above Dolby Atmos that should make the listening experience even more gripping. Head tracking ensures that the sound always comes from the same direction and will therefore not turn with your head. This should have the great advantage that it looks like you are live somewhere. The audio is kind of fixed.

To make it a little more understandable, you can imagine the following: imagine listening on Spotify – via your Bluetooth earphones – to the sultry voice of Mia Nicolai, the woman who will represent our country together with Dion Cooper during the Eurovision Song Contest. If you now turn your head to the left – with head tracking on – you will hear her voice more from the right earpiece. So it really has to feel like she’s right in front of you.

Spatial audio with head tracking is now also available for the Google Pixel Buds Pro through an update. Google reports this in a blog post. Among other things, the company states the following here: ”Ready to fully immerse yourself in spatial audio? Great news, the spatial audio feature is rolling out today and will be available on all Pixel Buds Pro in the coming week!”

The feature should start rolling out today and should be available on all Pixel Buds Pro earphones in the coming weeks. The feature is not coming to the Pixel Buds A earphones and only works in combination with the Pixel 6 (Pro) and the Pixel 7 (Pro). One of our readers has already received the update and reports that it seems to be working fine.
