Pay without a banking app, it will soon be possible with iDEAL

Currence, the manager of iDEAL, will launch a new version of the payment system in the summer. With this new system, people should be able to pay online faster.

Personal profile

Amos Kater, Head of Products at Currence, has indicated that from the summer you will be able to link a personal profile to iDEAL. This profile can then be filled with information such as delivery addresses, desired delivery options and the bank account with which you want to pay for your online purchases. For example, multiple accounts with different banks can be added to the profile.

Fast Pay

After creating a profile you can use ‘Fast Payments’. When paying for an order, simply click on the ‘Quick Payment’ button and your payment will then be processed behind the scenes. The webshop retrieves all relevant payment and delivery information from iDEAL and then handles the entire process. You just stay on the store’s site during this process, you don’t have to go to your banking app. Comparable to Amazon’s 1-click system.

The new version of the iDEAL payment system also comes with other options. Think of payment in installments and deferred payment. This means: scheduling a payment to be made at a later time.

The data in your profile is stored at Currence and not at the banks themselves. It is not known how Currence has arranged the security of the data. There are now other parties such as Klarna among them.

Currently, 70% of online purchases in the Netherlands are settled with iDEAL. The system handles 3.5 million transactions every day. Last year, the number of online purchases via smartphone rose from 29 to 33 percent. The chance that you as an Androidworld reader will handle your online orders with iDEAL is therefore very high.
