Overwatch 2 changes the number of players in a team from six to five -apkrig
The Blizzard developers staged a more than two-hour stream last night, in which they discussed a number of aspects of the upcoming sequel to the Overwatch team event. As expected, they also presented many minutes of footage from the upcoming game and addressed issues related not only to the matches themselves, but also to the characters and sub-mechanisms of the game modes. One of the most important topics in the developers’ debate, however, was the insignificant, yet very important change in the number of players, which was reduced from twelve to ten. Although it involves removing only one team member on each side, game director Aaron Keller has spent a long time explaining why the team resorted to this decision and what it will mean for Overwatch in the future.
“We will talk about a lot of changes that we want to make in PvP and that we are currently making. But there is one specific issue that I want to emphasize right now, because it is important and I think it has a big impact on the way the whole team approaches PvP in Overwatch 2, “said Keller. He immediately added that in the current version of the game, everything works as planned and the team is excited about reducing the number of players. According to Keller, the change is just another stage of development and copies the previous approach to the first part. “There are many reasons why we wanted to make this change. The overwatch has changed since we were before the launch [prvního dílu] they had no limits on heroes in the game at all, “Keller recalls of the fact that originally the developers didn’t mind if the players had to choose, for example, six Winstons. However, this was never done precisely because of the effort to balance the game as best as possible, and the narrowing of the teams is directly based on this.
Unless the target is completely modified, it is almost impossible to play Overwatch 2 successfully without a main tank with a shield.
Two supports, two PCBs, but only one tank will be able to take part in the matches, which Keller describes as key for clarity and prevention of moments that may not be properly balanced, but not all players are completely excited. We are mainly talking about those who liked to take on the role offtank, for example the heroine D.vu, for whom there will probably be no room. Unless the goal is completely modified, it is almost impossible to play Overwatch 2 (successfully) without a main tank with a shield, which requires a completely different approach than playing for the aforementioned D.vu, Zaryu or Roadhoga. Therefore, there are critical responses from players who really consider whether they should re-learn, or simply to leave to play another game, which may have an impact on Overwatch 2, especially in the field of professional or at least more seriously competitive competition.
However, the developers stand by their own and claim that they decided to take this step in the interest of the already mentioned clarity, but also of overall simplification. This does not automatically mean that Overwatch 2 should be simple game and still in it you will come across players who will send you to the ground without realizing what just happened. Overall, however, the step in the community is perceived rather negatively and only time will prove whether it is a functional change and a good decision. With the release of the second part, of course, the characteristics of the existing heroes may be mixed, and it is considered that some of the current characters may fall into another category. But the developers don’t talk about it, and everything will of course be linked to pre-release testing. That’s a long way off, and the developers themselves say that Overwatch 2 has a long way to go before everything is ready. It will not happen until next year, but even this date is not firmly promised, so we can only wait.
