Outer Range (Amazon series): western with an alien touch

An otherworldly find on the lands of two feuding farming families in pristine Wyoming. That is the setting of the Amazon Prime series Outer Range.

Extraterrestrial mystery in Wyoming

The plotline of the Amazon Prime series Outer Range begins like a classic western. The extended Abbott farming family in the US state of Wyoming lives and works on a ranch on the edge of the wilderness. You might say that you don’t have much trouble with the neighbors in Wyoming, but then you haven’t counted on the -understatement- pesky Tillerson family, who love land grabs. To make matters worse, the family also has to fear for the future of the farm.

But it’s not as simple as it seems here. Because head of the ranch and the father of the family, Roy Abbott, makes a mysterious discovery on the ranch land in the first episode. An alien object. Let’s just say, a whole collection. And then all hell breaks loose. It’s not for nothing that this is also a science fiction series.

Where and when can the Outer Range series be viewed?

The Outer Range series is an Amazon Original, so it was developed exclusively for Amazon Prime and can only be viewed there. Fortunately, a subscription to Amazon Prime with around three euros per month is not very expensive.

With this, Amazon tries to lure as many people as possible into their own world, so that they can shop on Amazon, watch Amazon movies, hang an Amazon Ring camera on their front door and read Amazon books on their Amazon Kindle.

But you don’t have to. In itself, the faster delivery and the extensive collection of Amazon films and series are currently worth the low subscription fee.

To watch or not to watch?

Do you like a sleek format and a recognizable genre, and do you always put your books neatly ordered by color in the bookcase? Then Outer Range is not what you are looking for. Isn’t that a point? Then there is a good chance that you will find this a fun series.

Lovers of drama, rural settings and science fiction will probably find this series interesting. Viewers of all ages can identify with people in the film, from teens to middle-aged and elderly people.

It is remarkable that film critics with a rating of more than eighty percent on RottenTomatoes are very enthusiastic about Outer Range, while the audience is positively, moderately enthusiastic with sixty percent. This may indicate that the series is a bit too innovative and unpredictable for the average American. And here, in the progressive Netherlands, it is very popular for that very reason.
