Original and healthy bites for the lunch box

The school year is already underway and that means that the pace has increased considerably in the mornings. We made a list of healthy snacks that you can give to your child, so that you don’t have to think about it anymore.

Fruit and vegetables are of course always good, but sometimes you also want to give something different. The same every day, that doesn’t make anyone happy.

break snack

At ten o’clock something will go in with your little one. In addition to fruit, consider a whole-wheat sandwich, crispbread or muesli bread. What can you do on that? Try 100% peanut butter, 30+ cheese or salt-free hummus. Of course you can also unpack even more with these ideas:

  • A slice of watermelon.
  • Cup of dates and dried apricots.
  • Colored chips: strips of cucumber, bell pepper and celery.
  • ‘Cakeje’: paper cake mold with a handful of unsalted student oats.
  • Cup of low-fat yogurt with half a banana in pieces.
  • Fruit festival: skewer with cubes of colored fruit.

Lunch time

Such a lunch box is occasionally quite long in a bag, so keep that in mind when you lubricate the sandwiches. Meats that spoil quickly are therefore better left for what they are. Would you like to unpack? Prepare one of these treats:

  • Banana bread sushi: Flatten a slice of bread with a rolling pin and place a whole banana in it. Roll up and cut into slices. Also delicious with a lick of 100% peanut butter!
  • Bread lolly: cut two slices of bread into six pieces and thread the pieces onto skewers. Put a little lettuce, apple slices, cheese slices or cucumber slices between the slices of bread.
  • Make a double sandwich with toppings of your choice and cut the sandwiches into puzzle pieces with a sharp knife. Looks cozier!
  • Bagel: replace the sandwich with a bagel. It’s just different!

Against the thirst

As easy as it is: it is better not to give packs of juice with you. There are seven (!) sugar cubes per pack. Lemonade or soft drinks are also not really the best choice, but what is?

  • Water: this remains the healthiest. And preferably in a refillable bottle. Wash the bottle every day. You can spice up the water with a lemon or mint leaf.
  • Tea: a thermos cup of tea is a good idea, provided you don’t put the water in the cup too hot, of course.
  • Milk: is there a fridge? Then give a carton or cup of milk or buttermilk. You can also use a thermos flask.

Made with love

And if you want to go even further with all this inspiration, here are some tips to make every meal at school a party:

  • Put a sweet note in your child’s lunch box.
  • Use a cozy napkin in the lunch box to wrap lunch.
  • Decorate fruit as a joke with an edible marker: the winking banana or smiling apple will do well.
  • Give your kids a nice lunchbox and cup so they can look forward to opening it up.
