The orange operator launched its 5G network in May this year in Banská Bystrica and Petržalka in Bratislava. As the only operator, it charges a fee for accessing it. However, an extra data package is included in the fee.

The operator announced today through a press release about the expansion of the 5G network. It is available for residents of Bratislava’s Old Town and its surrounding area. Customers can use the maximum theoretical speed of 1300 Mb / s, the actual one can exceed the limit of 600 Mb / s.

In order for you to be able to use the 5G network from Orange, you need to be in coverage and have the Extra Data package activated. You can find more information about this package later in this article. In the high-speed 5G network from Orange in Slovakia, customers can use data transmissions according to a supported standard with a maximum theoretical speed of 1300 Mbit / s for download and 130 Mbit / s for upload. According to the operator, the actual download speed may exceed 600 Mbit / s. The technology is supplied by Nokia.

High speeds are achieved thanks to a separate frequency band that operates separately from 4G and 4G + and uses a fifth-generation technology standard as an extension to them. Orange currently provides a 5G network at 3.5 GHz.

“Thanks to the most extensive modernization of our network, we were able to start implementing several ambitious projects, including the construction of the first true high-speed 5G network, which brings extremely high transmission speeds and low response. In addition, Orange already has the best mobile 4G network in Slovakia, which is available to 99% of the population and whose highest quality has been confirmed by up to two independent tests, which I am very proud of. Orange’s starting position for the launch of the 5G network is thus more than good, and its gradual deployment will take place in two phases – evolutionary and revolutionary. ”

Federico Colom, CEO of Orange Slovakia

It will not work without an extra data package

The operator is aware that customer data requirements are constantly growing. They will increase even more in connection with the introduction of high-speed 5G connection. Therefore, he decided to add a data package to his portfolio, which is cheaper compared to the current offer.

“The demands of our customers are higher from year to year, and it is therefore up to us to not only meet their expectations, but also exceed them. Finally, last year alone, the year-on-year increase in data traffic in the 4G network was up to 52%, and this trend is regularly growing. “

Martin Hromkovič, Marketing Director for Orange Orange Customers

The package called Extra Data has a single price of € 5 and can be used on all networks, including 3G, 4G and 5G. It is available for flat rates Go € 20, Go € 30 and Go € 40. After activating it, customers will receive 3, 7 or 20 GB of extra data, depending on the flat rate.

Activation of this data package will be required for the customer to gain access to the 5G network. Customers with the unlimited Go € 65 program have automatic access to the network. Clients who have cheaper flat rates will not have access to 5G. The same philosophy applies to the Go Biznis packages.

Orange’s 5G network is currently supported by these smartphones

Immediately after launch, 2 smartphones from Huawei, two from OnePlus, 4 Samsungs and 3 smartphones from Xiaomi have access to the 5G network.

The competition is also working to build 5G networks

Competitive operators’ customers have access to 5G automatically and for free, which is of course an advantage. Telekom has already covered the whole of Bratislava and a relatively important area around it, together with several municipalities. In total, up to 38 smartphone models are supported.

SWAN together with 4ka recently launched a fixed internet at home, which uses 5G technology. It is currently available in 10 city districts of Bratislava, and it is planned to cover other cities in the future.

O2 currently covers practically the entire Bratislava and its surrounding area. The operator’s plans are to move to the east and cover Košice and other densely populated areas.
