OPPO has shown a new photo sensor and telephoto lens for future smartphones

Chinese company OPPO in its future smartphones, it wants to attract mainly high-end cameras. This is confirmed by the latest technologies presented at the OPPO Future Imaging Technology Launch Event 2021. The information was provided by the portal DPreview.

Sensor with RGBW mask and 5-axis camera stabilization

At its conference, OPPO announced several innovations that should improve the cameras of its future smartphones. The first was a sensor with an RGBW mask, where half of the pixels are to be replaced by white ones. The company claims that this will increase the amount of light by 60% and reduce noise by 35%.

This should reduce the so-called moire effect. This is a disruptive effect that occurs when two different line patterns or shapes overlap. Otherwise, the one-color surface has lighter and darker stripes in the photo. The OPPO Quadra demositioning algorithm, which directly supports the sensor itself and does not have to worry about the ISP chip, should take care of eliminating the effect.

Another novelty is the 5-axis dual stabilization. It uses the mechanical stabilization of the sensor and also the optical one in the lens. For smaller deviations, only the optical one works in two axes, for larger deviations, both stabilizations in a total of 5 axes are involved. According to OPPO, this suppresses 95% of vibrations, the compensation should be 65% better and the accuracy should be increased 3.5 times.

New telephoto lens with long focus and better selfie camera on display

The company also showed a new telephoto lens with an optical zoom in the range of 85-200 mm. It is a periscope lens and should have the advantage of not switching between sensors and lenses. This usually leads to huge jumps in the angles of view, and the color rendering and white balance also change many times.

The latest innovation is the new camera technology integrated in the display. The company revealed that the American Research Institute has developed a set of AI algorithms for it, diffraction reduction, anticondensation, HDR and AWB, to optimize the under-screen camera system. As a result, the selfie camera should produce clearer and sharper images.
