Open Google Drive from two different accounts side by side

Google Drive can now be opened simultaneously for two accounts on large screens. That’s how it works.

Google Drive in two windows side by side

Google Drive has had so-called multi-instance support for large screens since last year. So you can open two Drive windows, or open the Drive app on your tablet twice, to easily drag files from one folder to another. To do this, tap the three dots to the right of any file or folder and tap “Open in split view.”

According to Google, multi-instance support for multiple accounts is now also added. This makes it possible to open two Drive windows side by side for two different accounts. For example, from your private and your work account. This way, according to Google, you can preview a file from one account while navigating through the folders of your other account in the other window.

It is not known whether you can also drag files and folders from one account to another. We need a little more patience to find out. The option will gradually roll out to more people with a Google Workspace and a G Suite account in the coming days.
