OnePlus draws level with Samsung: cell phone manufacturer makes big promises
Protects the environment and your wallet: long software support pays off twice over. Samsung has been the update king in the Android camp so far, but OnePlus will follow suit next year. The Chinese manufacturer makes a big promise for its new smartphones – and at the same time dupes Google.
Modern smartphones are so powerful that they can still carry out everyday tasks effortlessly even after several years. However, the prerequisite for this is up-to-date software support, which quickly fixes small and large bugs. Samsung has understood this and offers an update guarantee of 5 years for its entry-level and mid-range Galaxy smartphones. OnePlus will follow suit in 2023.
OnePlus guarantees 5 years of software updates for smartphones
OnePlus also wants selected smartphones from next year 5 years updates deliver. Just like update pioneer Samsung, OnePlus divides the period: Android updates are available for 4 years, plus security updates for another year.
So the bottom line is 5 years of software support – a strong announcement, which above all Google in need of explanation brings. After all, the US group is developing the Android operating system, but only grants its Pixel smartphones 4 years of software support (3 years of OS updates + 1 year of security updates).
The manufacturer did not reveal which OnePlus smartphones will benefit from the new update guarantee. It is likely, however, that it is just expensive high-end smartphones acts, such as the upcoming OnePlus 11.
