OnePlus confirms the arrival of its foldable smartphone for 2023

OnePlus is taking advantage of the Mobile World Congress to make some announcements around its products. The brand has already presented a phone with a liquid cooling system and now announces that its first foldable smartphone will be released in 2023.

A few leaks here and there had already revealed that OnePlus was preparing a foldable smartphone and it’s now official. Here’s what Kinder Liu, Chief Operating Officer of OnePlus, said during a session at Mobile World Congress 2023:

Our first foldable phone will have OnePlus’ signature fast and smooth experience. It must be a high-end phone that does not settle because of its foldable shape, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the top of the current foldable market experience.

He specified separately to TechCruch that the launch will be in the second half of 2023. But he did not give a date, just as he did not say anything about the technical characteristics.

As a reminder, OnePlus and Oppo are close, and the first sometimes uses the design of the second’s smartphones. It turns out that Oppo already offers a foldable smartphone, namely the Find N2. Will OnePlus offer a somewhat revamped equivalent model? We will have to wait to find out.

It will also be interesting to see if the model will have real added value. To date, Samsung dominates the sales of foldable smartphones. This is still a small market compared to that of standard smartphones, but it is growing year by year.
