‘Once a year I go to Ibiza on my own to not be a mom for a while’

Of course she loves her husband and children very much, but sometimes Martje doesn’t want to be the ‘mother of’. And she does that in Ibiza. Alone.

Martje (28): “Barry and I are childhood sweethearts and deliberately started having children at a young age. That doesn’t mean I’ve lost my wild hair, though. Once a year I need to not be a mother and ‘wife of’ for a while. And I do that in Ibiza. Alone.

Ibiza

I’ve been staying in the same boutique hotel for a long weekend for six years now. I have a good click with the owner, so I’m not all alone. On one of our evenings we drink and chat until the sun comes up. I can always go to her. During the day I laze by the pool or at the beach. And the other evenings I go out for dinner alone and sometimes also go out.

A woman alone at a table in a hip restaurant always produces strange looks, but also the necessary attention. Especially from the local men – and I enjoy that to the fullest. It’s wonderful to feel desired by other men, to exchange glaring glances and have flirty conversations. I never tell that I’m married and I don’t tell anything about my children.

Just being Martje for a while

Do I feel guilty for lying about that? No of course not. I won’t go any further than a good flirt. And Barry knows that I am only Martje in Ibiza and that I really leave my life in the Netherlands behind me. He trusts me completely and knows not to be jealous. That’s why I don’t let anyone hear from me that weekend. I never call or text. And they know that at home too.

After my Ibiza weekend I am fully charged and appreciate what I have sitting at home more than ever. I’m still head over heels for Barry and my family. And a weekend like this makes me realize that all the more!”
