This has probably happened to everyone: I quickly typed a message on my cell phone, but didn’t really look and send it. Only afterwards do you often see that the autocorrect has completely distorted the meaning of the message.

Of course, this can quickly become embarrassing or lead to bizarre situations. If you prefer not to use autocorrect in the future, we will show you how you can turn it off on your smartphone and in Word.

Here’s how to turn off autocorrect on your phone

Of course, it depends on what kind of smartphone you use. Because that is also how you proceed to turn off autocorrect on your iPhone or Android smartphone.

This is how it works on the iPhone

On your iPhone, you can turn off autocorrect in Settings. To do this, open the Settings app and scroll to General.

Here you will find the Keyboard sub-item, which contains all the settings related to your keyboards. To turn off your auto-correction, you need to uncheck the auto-correction box.

You can also change other automatic settings of the keyboard. These include, for example, auto-capitalization or the “.” shortcut, where your iPhone puts a period after two spaces.

This is how it works on Android

You can also find autocorrect in your settings on your Android smartphone. On your Samsung cell phone, you have to go to the General Management menu item.

If you click here on Samsung keyboard settings, you can switch off text recognition in the sub-item Smart typing. You can also turn off auto-capitalization by clicking More typing options.

However, it should be noted that the setting is not found in the same place on all Samsung smartphones. You may also have to go to the Languages ​​& input menu item in your settings. Here you will find the Keyboard and input methods menu and you can disable text correction for the keyboard you are using.

You can also turn off autocorrect in Word

Also with Word it may be useful to turn off autocorrect. How this works depends on which operating system you are using.

On Windows, File takes you to the Options menu. Here you click on the sub-item Document Check and then on “AutoCorrect Options…”. In the window that opens, you can toggle various autocorrect options on or off. If you want to completely disable autocorrect, uncheck the “Replace text as you type” box.

On your Mac you can access your settings via the Word menu item. Here you can click on AutoCorrect and you will get to the same menu as in Windows.
