Obi-Wan Kenobi: Darth Maul absent from the series following the new scenario

Darth Maul was originally meant to be in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+, but the Star Wars villain will ultimately be absent according to information from the HollywoodReporter. Everything would be linked to the new scenario.

No Darth Maul in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi

Lucasfilm had initially chosen Hossein Amini to take care of the script for the series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Then Lucasfilm decided to take a long hiatus to start from scratch by bringing in Joby Harold to write another script. And it was this change that impacted the villain who first appeared in the film. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, who oversee the series The Mandalorianwere worried about the original script, feeling that it was too similar to that of The Mandalorian (Obi-Wan Kenobi protecting the young Luke Skywalker in one, the Mandalorian protecting Grogu in the other). Darth Maul was to be one of those hunting Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, and there was no question of Darth Vader being present at this time. At the same time, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau invited Deborah Chow, the director, “to go further”.

Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, had echoes of the fears and that was enough to put a pause at the level of the series. Then there was the arrival of Joby Harold as the new screenwriter.

Darth Vader to the rescue

Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in the films, was reportedly on the pre-production set to do some testing. The stuntman and actor would also have shot scenes, but these would only be test scenes and not for the series itself.

Upon arrival, Darth Maul was dropped from the show Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dave Filoni reportedly pushed for Darth Vader to be the show’s big bad along with the Grand Inquisitor. These two characters will be present in the series.

Series Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut on Disney+ on May 24. There will be one season with six episodes in total. The trailer was released a few days ago.
