WhatsApp function: delete messages longer
WhatsApp has something new! You now have two days in the popular chat app to decide whether you want to delete an ‘app’ in a private or group chat.
Although the option to delete a message has been present in WhatsApp for some time, the company has now stretched the duration a bit further. Before, you only had an hour to delete the message (including the recipient), but now it’s more than two days!
Delete sent messages in WhatsApp
WhatsApp announced the option to delete sent messages for longer in a tweet. Other apps, such as Apple’s Messages app, have also been experimenting with this option for a while. In iOS 16 you will soon be able to edit or delete a sent message.
The messaging app from Meta (parent company of Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook) goes a step further. The ample 2 days and 12 hours is even close to two-and-a-half days. Why they chose this time window is as yet unknown.
Option to edit posts controversial
The interesting thing about this whole story is that with the same service in the Messages app, since iOS 16 beta 4, Apple has actually shortened this time frame. In the first beta version of iOS 16, you could still delete a message for 15 minutes. Now it’s only two minutes. That is quite a difference with the more than two days at WhatsApp.
Apple has therefore added a change history in iOS 16. With this you can still see the previous messages if you do your best. However, WhatsApp does not have this feature. So it remains a mystery what your friend typed and then deleted.
How to delete a message in WhatsApp
To delete sent messages in WhatsApp, you just need to press it with your finger for a few seconds. Then choose the option ‘Delete’. You can also delete WhatsApp messages automatically. However, this feature is mainly for saving storage or a tidy chat history.
