Nokia G22 and Nokia C32: hands-on at MWC

Prior to the Mobile World Congress, Nokia announced several new models. These are the Nokia C32 and the Nokia G22. We have subjected the devices to a hands-on.

When we look for the Nokia stand, it is quite a search. Although the brand has rented a large part of a hall for the network and business department, the consumer products can literally be found in the last row in the last hall. Remarkable. Now there is not a lot of news to report from the originally Finnish manufacturer, because the new logo is only for the other branch of Nokia, it is not that there is nothing to report.

We see a handful of devices on the small Nokia stand. Including the Nokia C32 and the G22 that we officially saw last week. In addition, there are a number of entry-level devices, all of which do not find their way to our country. The Nokia G22 and Nokia C32 do, and we’ll give them a hands-on.

Nokia C32

The Nokia C32 is the cheapest device, which is released for an amount of 149 euros. For this amount you get a phone with a neat specification. This is reflected in a 6.5-inch HD+ screen and we even see a 50-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, it was not the conditions to get started with the camera, but that is probably something for a later moment.

The phone feels a bit cheap with its plastic housing; but hey, we can’t blame him for that for 149 euros. It is also a recognizable Nokia with a pure Android experience and little unnecessary fuss. In any case, the device does not have to be boring from the outside; in addition to black, the Nokia C32 is also available in green and pink. A nice stylish addition. The C32 is also equipped with a 5000 mAh battery and 64GB storage space. It looks like a great device on paper and the first impression is also good, but not exciting. But you don’t have to for 149 euros.

The G series has also been expanded with a new device. After the Nokia G21, it is time for the Nokia G22 this year. This device stands out because of its colored side, and I have to say right away, you have to love that. It may look a bit kitschy, although on the other hand it is also original. Nokia has equipped the G22 with three lenses on the back; and with that we can immediately distinguish it from the C32.

The Unisoc T606 processor keeps things going, but strangely enough this device still runs on Android 12 and you get (only?) two Android updates. You have a 50MP main camera with two more 2MP lenses. This device also offers a 6.5-inch HD+ screen and there is also a 5050 mAh battery. I think Nokia was one point ahead when the device was delivered directly with Android 13.

The real focus of the Nokia G22 is on being able to repair the phone. There has been collaboration with iFixit and making the phone easier to repair is the starting point of this phone. All the crazier is the update policy and especially the delivery of Android 12. Nokia is not going to save the world with this, but every bit helps. The Nokia G22 also lacks excitement, but you mainly have a device that scores well on the basis, but without outliers. There aren’t many colors; you have a choice of blue and gray. The smartphone also feels a bit plastic, but this is not unusual in this price range.
