Apple AR glasses coming in 2022 and you don’t need an iPhone

It has been known for some time that Apple is working behind the scenes with its own augmented reality glasses. According to the latest rumors, Apple’s special glasses do not require an iPhone to work.

Read on after the ad.

Apple AR glasses coming in 2022: no need for an iPhone anymore

That says Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst in the Apple world. It will be a headset that actually looks like glasses and only has AR. You then see a virtual layer over reality. This is useful, for example, when you are navigating and ‘projected’ arrows show you which way to go.

Furthermore, Kuo says that the glasses have about the same processing power as a Mac. But he does think the headset will get two processors, a high-end and a slower one. The fast processor has a performance comparable to the M1 for the Mac. The other processor will mainly be used for things that have to do with the different sensors on the glasses.

The analyst also predicts that the glasses will get two 4K micro OLED screens from Sony. This, he says, would pave the way for VR support. According to Kuo, Apple plans to completely replace the iPhone with augmented reality within ten years. The AR glasses may be the first step of this massive project.

This is what Apple is working on

Apple Glass, Apple View or iGlass: no one knows what the new glasses from Apple will be called, but it is clear that they are working on it. In recent years, the product has invariably cropped up in patents and elaborated concepts.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is even working on three pairs of glasses. A headset that actually looks like glasses and these glasses would therefore only have AR. In addition, Apple is working on a headset with augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR). This one would look like competing headsets, such as those from Oculus (which again falls under Meta).

According to the expert, Apple is also working on smart contact lenses in the background. Details about this are still lacking, because the project is still in the early stages.
