When you throw your displeasure into the world, there can always be a few little ears that can pick up on this all-too-sensitive information.

Richella (37), mother of two sons aged 6 and 4.

“My oldest son Finn has a lot of nice friends, but Luuk is not one of them. Whenever he comes here, he gets on my nerves within two minutes. He’s cheeky, trashes all the cupboards, tends to talk in an annoying little voice all the time and when I talk to him about something, he just looks at me with a look like: did you have some?

come and play

His mother is a really nice person, so I won’t tell her that I prefer to see Luuk leave. Now that is no longer necessary, because Finn has already communicated my opinion to Luuk in all his honesty. ‘No, you can’t play with me because my mother hates you’, he said at the end of the school day, when Luke asked if he could come with us in front of his mother.

“His mother is a really nice person, I will not say that I prefer to see Luuk leave”

“Well Finn, what are you saying?” I tried to save it, but the damage was already done. I was scared to death. The worst part was that Luuk’s mother started to cry, because now he is hardly allowed to play anywhere. I just took everyone home and Luuk’s mother and I had a long talk. Since then, Luuk has played here at most once a week and, miraculously, he behaves a lot better than before.”

What a boring bunch

Nina (40), mother of a daughter of 6.

“Else, my daughter’s girlfriend, is at our door almost every day. I didn’t feel like it for a while and that’s why I told her that we were away all Saturday, visiting relatives. The next day we ran into Else with her parents on the street. ‘How was it yesterday?’ the mother asked. Before I could answer, my daughter said, ‘Boring, we were home all day and Mom said Else couldn’t come and play because she didn’t feel like it.’”
