No new Vortex will be announced at WitcherCon
As we know from mid-June, the developers from the CD Project will be organizing a special online event WitcherCon in cooperation with Netflix in less than two weeks. At the moment when the event was announced, players began to speculate on exactly what the developers want to present, and the comments often turned to a possible hint that the CD Projekt RED is already working on the new Sorcerer. The release of a short teaser, for example in the form of a logo, made fans feel especially about the parties’ tarnished reputation for Cyberpunk 2077, but now we know that there will be no details about another Polish developer project at WitcherCon. They denied it themselves on the newly launched website of the planned event, which is supposed to present, without revealing some surprises, what the pair of streams will relate to on July 9th and 10th.
“WitcherCon is a worldwide virtual celebration of the Sorcerer! The digital event will run on Netflix, as well as on YouTub and the Twitch of the RED Project CD, from where the broadcast can be restreamed without restriction. Watch how the game and serial worlds of the Sorcerer intertwine in a broadcast full of surprises and exclusive shots, “promise the organizers of WitcherCon. Below the introductory text there are several pictures from the series, resp. Sorcerer 3, and the description in Geralt’s screenshot could potentially suggest something game. The developers are preparing an interactive panel discussion with the people who brought the Sorcerers to life, which will also include special news from Netflix and hitherto unseen revelations across the Sorcerer’s series. But as mentioned in the introduction, the new games – whether it’s Sorcerer 4 or any spin-off – will not be available to players at least for now.
From the point of view of games, the upcoming next-gen update for Sorcerers 3 should come to an end.
“If you ask, we won’t announce the new Sorcerer at WitcherCon, but you’ll still find plenty of reasons to join us,” the organizers say openly, which we certainly welcome due to any false expectations. It is also promised to publish the complete program, which should arrive soon, but we expect it to be within a few days at most. According to the available information, in addition to the series, the lora of the whole saga, monsters, legends and the Continent will be talked about, where the stories of Geralt and his friends and enemies take place. From the point of view of games, the upcoming next-gen update for Sorcerer 3, which could be the reason for monitoring mentioned above.
As for the new game from the CD of the RED Project, a year ago in March, it was heard directly from the developers that after Cyberpunk 2077, a single-player game from the world of The Sorcerer would come into play. A year later, the developers introduced a new strategy, in which they want to develop more titles simultaneously and confirmed that they will remain loyal to their two brands in the future. However, they indicated that they would start parallel development at the earliest next year, which is logical given the state of Cyberpunk 2077 and the need not only to repair the game, but also to start delivering the promised DLC and in this case the upcoming next-gen update. According to Adam Kiciński, CEO of the CD Project, at the beginning of June almost half of all studio employees were still fully engaged in Cyberpunk and the rest are divided into smaller teams, which are launching the pre-production phases of future projects. Please note, however, that taking into account the length of development of previous studio titles, it is quite possible that the new play from the CD Project will not arrive until around 2026 and 2027.
