No chance against the iPhone: This Apple product remains fiction
For some Apple products there simply should not and will not be a second spring, no matter how seductive retro designs are. A good example is the following visualized thought. Looks cool, but remains fiction.
Let’s be honest, the iPod had its time. She won’t come back either. Apart from the iPod touch, which was actually always just an iPhone without a telephone function for poor eaters, the former cult player is history. Everything that the iPod could do and what made it so popular, the iPhone can do better today.
No chance against the iPhone: Apple’s retro iPod
And yet there is a lot of nostalgia in the room. After all, it was Apple’s first “lifestyle product” that the flooring ordered for the Apple cell phone. No iPhone without an iPod – it’s that simple. Understandable that fans like the Designer Chin Patthara from Thailand still delivering designs for the resurrection of the iPod today.
His iPod classic in the redesign is clearly based on the design language of the original iPod, or the third generation from 2003. However, this player comes in a square, is controlled via a central, round touch display – the classic “click wheel” and the screen virtually form a unit.
Of course, such a model could also fire up Apple’s AirPods with music, something that the original iPods would never have been able to do due to the lack of Bluetooth. But of course there is also a normal jack connection for nostalgics. According to the designer, there would also be an integrated speaker. The mostly derogatory term “howler cube” would be given new life here.
20 years ago, the first iPod set out to conquer the world:
What for?
At first sight there is a feeling of desire. Sure, when Apple builds something like this, we buy it. But after just a few minutes you start to have doubts: What do I do with the iPhone? Everything this player can do, iPhone can do, whatever you have in your pocket. Such an Apple product would end up being as successful as hand-picked high-res audio players. Sure, they have their customers too, but you can count them on one hand. This is nothing for the mass market targeted by Apple.
In this respect: Thanks for the smile, which elicits the concept from us. However, the thought has no chance. The iPhone remains our egg-laying woolly milk pig.
