Nintendo seems to crush all hopes for a Switch Pro

Nintendo seems to definitively debunk the existence of the Switch Pro with an E3 announcement. So what were the leaks based on?

Nintendo fans have been hoping for a revamped Switch console for months, but the Japanese company seems to be crushing all hopes. Rumors have been suggesting for months that a Nintendo Switch Pro will be announced at the E3 game show. Nintendo itself says on the other hand zegt in a Tweet emphatically that this will not happen. Or are they trying to keep us quiet for a while?

Nintendo Switch Pro at E3?

Nintendo announces in the Tweet below that they will be holding a presentation at the upcoming E3. On June 15 (6:00 PM Dutch time), the game company will hold a 40-minute presentation. The wording in the Tweet is very interesting. They promise a “roughly 40 minute presentation exclusively about Nintendo Switch software”. In other words, emphatically no new hardware.

Now you can go both ways with Nintendo’s choice of words. On the one hand, you might think that Nintendo knows very well that unofficial (and even relatively official) information about the Nintendo Switch Pro keeps coming out. Perhaps Nintendo is already tempering expectations of fans a bit with this. At least the presentation doesn’t disappoint.

Or they are just manipulating fans hard not to reveal the big surprise yet. In that case, it would be a bit strange that they explicitly promise to focus on software, since they could have just used a little more vague wording to leave the subject of the presentation in the middle.

A final interpretation could be that Nintendo had indeed planned the Switch Pro for E3. But due to the worldwide chip shortage, the company may have decided to postpone the renewed console. We’ll know June 15, when the E3 game fair kicks off and Nintendo, as well as Xbox, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Take-Two, EA, and Activision, among others, make a presentation.
