New streaming provider could grab our favorite series from Netflix and Co

The streaming market is getting busy. In addition to the big names like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, new providers are always wanting a piece of the pie. A streaming service that is still little known is in the starting blocks in Germany – and could become a real problem for customers.

AMC+ starts: In 2023 the streaming selection will be bursting at the seams

AMC+ comes to Germany. The rather small streaming provider is only available in the USA, Canada and Australia so far. There he combines the offers of the US broadcaster AMC as well as BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV. AMC+ is also available as a channel on Prime Video, Apple TV and Roku.

In the first quarter of 2023 According to Levente Málnay from AMC, the streaming services should now also come to Central and Eastern Europe (source: TBI Vision). Although there are no general rules as to which countries belong to Central Europe, the start in Germany should also be safe.

On the one hand you want to get along with the step not in direct competition with Netflix and Co. For the broadcast, for example, cable and satellite TV providers will be approached. In the previous markets, however, AMC+ also offers its own apps. It remains to be seen whether this is also an option for Europe.

End for Better Call Saul and The Walking Dead on Netflix, Disney+ and Co?

But there are tensions in the program. According to Málnay, AMC+ wants to bring successful hit shows from the USA to Europe and also finance local productions themselves. AMC comes with successful series in the luggage: These include Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead and its (planned) spin-offs and Mad Men. Much of this can currently be seen in the major competitors.

Málnay avoided a declaration of war. But the example of Disney+ shows that Series are often withheld from the competition, as soon as the original rights holder starts its own streaming service. Customers then have to dig deeper into their pockets to treat themselves to many subscriptions or to make a choice. Our tip: If you haven’t already, plan Better Call Saul and Co. for the next series marathon before things get tight.
