New router software revamps Fritzboxes properly
AVM has released a first beta version of FritzOS 7.50. The update is initially only available for a single Fritzbox, but offers a good insight into the future of FritzOS. The focus is on faster VPN connections and a new design.
The Berlin router manufacturer AVM has one Preview of the upcoming FritzOS 7.50 published. Now that the big update wave for current Fritz boxes has been completed, we are looking towards the near future. The new beta version can initially only be tested on the Fritzbox 7590. As always, a prior backup is recommended as the software may be unstable. In general, the installation should only be carried out by experienced users.
FritzOS 7.50: Fritzbox software gets a new coat of paint
One of the highlights of the new software concerns that Appearance of the user interface, which has been reissued. However, the manufacturer does not want to let everyone look at the cards, because real details are still missing. The WLAN area should present itself more clearly, they say. The new design also takes the smaller screens of smartphones into account.
Faster VPN connections are possible with FritzOS 7.50 with the WireGuard protocol, which makes it quicker to set up Virtual Private Networks. When using the Fritzbox as a mesh repeater, the manufacturer promises more stability with higher data throughput at the same time. 2.4 and 5 GHz are available with FritzOS 7.50.
For the Smart Home area, AVM minor innovations in the answering machine, the WLAN guest access and the push mails considered. With the NAS function of the Fritzbox, exFAT is now available in addition to FAT and NTFS (source: AVM).

FritzOS 7.50: New software from the AVM laboratory
Interested owners of a Fritzbox 7590 can download the early software obtain from the AVM laboratory. Since this is not a final update, customers have to download the laboratory software themselves and then install it on the router.
