Apple fans are actually still waiting for new computers this year. But nothing will come of it. Apple will not be introducing any new products and therefore probably no new Macs in 2022. Particularly tricky: The manufacturer is missing a self-imposed goal.

Apple

Those who were still hoping for new Macs this year will now be disappointed. Contrary to previous reports, Apple will no longer introduce any new Macs this year. None other than Mark Gurman, Apple insider and Bloomberg reporter, reports this in the latest issue of his newsletter (source: Power-On Newsletter).

Apple introduced the new MacBook Air with an M2 chip back in the summer:

Apple changes plans: New Macs not until next year

This means that all expected updates to the MacBook Pro with 14 and 16-inch displays and the Mac mini based on the new Apple M2 have been postponed. The new Mac Pro based on the M2 was only expected for next year anyway. Gurman assumes that the new models will be presented in the first quarter of next year. Ergo: It could probably be in March 2023. When the last quarterly figures were announced, Apple CEO Tim Cook made suspicious indications that nothing new can be expected by the end of the year. He thanked the employees and spoke of a set range of products for the Christmas business.

Exciting concept, but we definitely won’t see it again this year:

Missed target: Chip change not complete

Regrettable for Apple: The self-imposed goal of converting the in-house Mac portfolio completely to its own chips is clearly missed. We remember that Apple spoke of a two-year transition period when they started selling the first Macs with their own processors in 2020. This transformation should therefore have been completed by the end of 2022. But the Mac Pro and a model of the Mac mini with Intel chips are still on offer. The deadline for the complete conversion is therefore not met, the milestone is not broken.
