New photo sensor Galaxy S21 Ultra officially

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which was officially introduced for just two days, is currently probably the most equipped Android smartphone on the market. Its advantage is not only the performance and support of the S Pen, but also an excellent camera. It uses a new 108-megapixel photo sensor Samsung ISOCELL HM3which specifications are presented by the portal GSMarena.

Improved HDR and lower noise

Samsung ISOCELL HM3 is the successor to the Samsung ISOCELL HM1 sensor, which is used by last year ‘s Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra smartphones. It brings several improvements compared to it. These include improved HDR, better brightness and better autofocus performance. Smart ISO Pro is an HDR technology that captures one high ISO and one low ISO image simultaneously.

Because both images are captured at the same time, you avoid the ghost of moving objects, which is a problem with sequential HDR. Subsequently, the two images are combined into one 12-bit photo. This makes 12 bits per channel, which means that a RAW image contains 64 times more color information than a 10-bit image.

The sensor is 1 / 1.33-inches in size and spreads its pixels in a 12,000 x 9,000 grid. Because Nonapixel Bayer technology allows a combination of 9: 1 pixels, so the effective pixel size will be 2.4 µm and the photo resolution will be 12 megapixels. Samsung ISOCELL HM3 is also equipped with Low Noise mode, which improves light sensitivity by up to 50%. In good lighting conditions, the improved remosaic algorithm can generate full-resolution images of 108 megapixels.

More accurate focusing in the dark and 8K video at 30 fps

Super PD Plus technology adds microlenses to other phase detection elements for autofocus. The microlenses improve the measurement accuracy of these elements by 50%, which allows the sensor to more accurately track moving objects in the dark. When shooting videos, the Samsung ISOCELL HM3 can capture 8K videos at 30 fps, 4K videos at 120 fps and 1080p videos at 240 fps.

However, in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphone, 8K video is limited to a frame rate of 24 frames per second. A good feature of the smartphone is definitely the support of the S Pen. You can use this when editing videos to more accurately manipulate the timeline with frame-level precision.
