“New HomePod 2023 is coming” – this is what it (hopefully) looks like

New HomePod in development
Apple doesn’t seem to have given up hope for a new HomePod yet. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new version of the original ‘big’ HomePod. The original HomePod appeared on the market in 2018, but was never a success due to the price tag of no less than 349 euros. Due to the high price, sales of the smart speaker were quite disappointing.
Apple therefore launched the smaller brother of the HomePod in 2020: the HomePod Mini. This smaller speaker costs ‘only’ € 104 and became a success, after which Apple decided to take the large HomePod off the market. Gurman now predicts that the HomePod will finally get a successor. What will the HomePod 2023 look like?
HomePod 2023: this is (hopefully) the design
Little is known about the design of the HomePod 2023. Parker Ortolani already made a first draft and shared his results on Twitter. He calls the new HomePod the HomePod Max. The new HomePod is available in several colors according to this concept. Apple, are you watching?
The HomePod has what everyone hopes for: a touchscreen. By placing a screen on the HomePod, the control is much easier and the speaker looks nicer. Ortolani introduces homeOS in his concept, a new operating system for the HomePod. It is unlikely that this operating system will really come, but the HomePod will in any case receive a major update.
Concept is in line with Gurman’s statements
Ortolani’s concept is in line with Gurman’s statements. He also expects the HomePod 2023 to have a touchscreen as a control panel and no further major updates. According to Gurman, the HomePod will receive the S8 chip, which we still know from recent Apple Watch models.

Whether the HomePod 2023 will be a success will of course depend on the price of the product. In any case, Gurman expects the price to be considerably lower than that of the first HomePod, in order to compete with cheaper speakers. It’s no secret that the HomePod was not a success because of the price, so Apple will undoubtedly change this with the new version of the smart speaker.
HomePod 2023: here’s when it appears
The new HomePod will appear “in the very near future,” according to Gurman. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is a bit more specific about this, because he expects the smart speaker in the first quarter of 2023. So we don’t expect to have to wait long for the new HomePod.
