Signal: New features for Messenger
After the chaos surrounding new data protection regulations on WhatsApp, quite a few users switched to the competition. Signal’s messenger was able to distinguish itself here – even if it was not possible to log in for several days. Now that these problems are over, the operators have taken care of both troubleshooting and further development of the WhatsApp competitor.
With the new version of Signal, which is already available as an update, some new functions have been added to the app. In addition, existing features have been taken care of and some bugs have been eliminated there. The most visible new option should be the background images, which can now be set either for individual conversations or as the standard background for all conversations.
Also new are animated stickers, which are available in an initial official collection. Until now, messenger users had to resort to external sources to add animated stickers to their conversations. Users can now also create their own sticker collections in the desktop version of Signal and use them in conversations with friends.
What other alternatives are there to WhatsApp?
Less mobile data consumption with Signal
For some Signal users, perhaps more important than animated stickers is the new way of dealing with mobile data consumption. Here the developers have worked hard and made a new setting that ensures a reduction in data consumption when making calls. In addition, the image compression has been revised, which should also have a positive effect with a slightly lower data consumption.
With the update of Signal, users also get the opportunity to make their profile a little more interesting. Something like a status update can now be inserted in the “About” area. Profile pictures can now also be viewed in full screen view.
