New affordable MacBook Pro isn’t really going to be… Pro

Apple comes with a new flavor MacBook Pro, but the device is not going to be that ‘Pro’ at all. huh?

Apple is definitely going to make some more reveals this year – a few early in the year (quite soon!) and a few later in the year. One of this year’s revelations seems to be one that is desperately needed. That has to do with the MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro

At the end of last year we were introduced to the new MacBook Pro models. It was a completely redesigned 14 and 16 inch model. The new chipsets are called M1 Pro and M1 Max and the screen uses brand new MicroLED technology with finally a refresh rate of 120 Hz. In addition to a thorough redesign of the case, with other ports and the removal of the TouchBar.

MacBook Pro 13″

Today, however, we need to talk about the slip-on. Because that is not a brand new entry since those new MacBooks. Apple was going to assist the new Pros with a base model, which is simply the outgoing generation MacBook Pro with M1 processor. This has a 13″ screen and is still from the ‘old’ model series. That’s going to change.

New base model

Because Apple comes with an addition to the MacBook series and that also means a new MacBook Pro. This 13-inch basic model will replace the Pro with M1 as an entry-level model. It will be a Pro model in terms of chipset, because it will enjoy a new chipset called M2. That’s going to be the next big thing in terms of chips at Apple.

Pro name worthy?

But, as far as the rumors of Mark Gurman of Bloomberg are concerned, it ends there with the Pro part of the MacBook Pro 13-inch. No MiniLED screen, but just the ‘old’ LCD screen with 60 Hz refresh rate. No Pro or Max processors, no massive storage spaces and more. It looks like the old housing is being used, minus the Touchbar. Because it will go away. It will be a logical upgrade with a new chipset, but nothing radical. And for the best of the best you still have to have the 14 and 16 inch ‘new’ Pros.

All fine, but then the MacBook Pro 13″ creeps suspiciously close to the MacBook Air. So it remains to be seen how exactly the placement will be.
