Netflix will let you pay definitively for parts of your account from 2023
Do you share your Netflix account with friends and family? Then you can expect an invoice from next year. Netflix really wants to tackle account sharing this time around, letting customers pay for sharing their accounts.
Sharing Netflix account becomes payment
Sharing a subscription to a streaming service is done by many. For example, you can save on your monthly costs. For some time now, there have been reports that Netflix no longer wants to tolerate this, and wants to tackle this. Now it seems that concrete steps will be taken to discourage sharing an account. Users who share their Netflix account will pay for this.
Customers who share their Netflix account with people within the household don’t have to worry. If they share their account with people outside their family, Netflix will charge an amount for this. The amount involved is unknown. The arrangement ensures that Netflix subscribers can simply share their accounts, and that Netflix continues to generate revenue. When someone from a shared account wants to continue his or her account himself, the Profile Transfer function can be used, with which viewing history and the like can be exported to a new account.
Earlier this year, Netflix started testing to limit account sharing. This happened in several regions, including South and Central America. The results seem to satisfy Netflix enough to continue. From the beginning of 2023, costs will therefore be charged for those who share their account. We expect more information about this in the near future. Last week, the video service released the Netflix subscription with advertising.
