The Squid Game (since end of September)
The good surprise of October, even if it appeared at the end of September (without being on the official schedule). This is a Korean series that will remind the oldest among us of the movie. Battle royale with Takeshi Kitano. A man riddled with debts and in distress agrees to participate in a rather special game to recover his life and the custody of his daughter. It’s rhythmic and you can see it all at once. If you put that in French, it’s no longer worth setting foot with us.
Seinfeld (since October 1)
Seinfeld is a 9-season series (1989 – 1998) which chronicles the life of Jerry Seinfeld: a Jewish comedian living in New York. Yes yes, it is more or less an autobiographical series since Jerry is himself a stand-up comedian in real life. Precursor of the 2000s series, Seinfeld is ” a show about nothing“. We just follow the tribulations of Jerry and his friends: his childhood mate, his ex and his eccentric neighbor. The image has aged quite a bit and certain “intrigues” of the first seasons could be settled in 5 minutes with a cell phone, but that is to be seen.
The Guilty (since October 1)
A 2021 Netflix movie starring Jake Gylhal, Jake Gahlly, Jake G… Finally the guy in Donnie Darko. A man who works at the 911 call center receives a strange phone call that leads him to investigate the disappearance of a woman. A gasping film well done and not too much telephoned.
3 Tom Hanks (since October 1)
October is Tom Hanks month with 3 films starting October 1st. In Stop me if you can, Tom plays the role of cop Carl Hanratty who wants to stop the forger Frank Abagnale Junior (Leonado Di Caprio). A very good 2002 movie based on a true story. In Alone in the world, Tom is the only survivor of a plane crash and he will have to stand alone on a desert island for years with a balloon for only friend. A big classic from 2000. Finally in The terminal (still based on a true story), the mermaids’ friend is Viktor Navorski. This Krakozian citizen finds himself stranded at the JFK airport in New York because he can no longer return home or enter the United States because of a civil war in his country and a mess with his passport.
Heat (since October 1)
Another big classic with, rare thing, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the same film. Masterpiece by Michael Mann from 1995, Heat hasn’t aged a bit. The pitch: ruthless robbers are “banging” in the city and that annoys the police. Fun fact: even during the scene where they are discussing the two protagonists are never on screen at the same time.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (October 9)
This Jurassic World is the second in the series after the first opus of 2015 and pending the Dominion from 2022. If you really like dinosaurs, and even if we have a soft spot for Chris Pratt, we still recommend that you check out the Jurassic Park (yes yes, even the III). Good thing, they’re all on Netflix …
First Man, the first man on the moon (October 20)
Aerospace engineer then test pilot, Neil Armstrong is of course best known for being the first man to walk on the moon (no offense to the morons who took Capricorn One first degree). But he was also the commander of the Gemini 8 mission which almost went wrong. A very good film based on the official biography of an extraordinary guy. Remember to watch The Cloth of Heroes if you liked. On the other hand this one, it is not on Netflix unfortunately …
The Office (US) (October 23)
Created by Rick Gervais (we advise you in passing After Life and Humanity on Netflix), this English comedy series was then adapted for the United States with Steve Carell playing the role of a “little boss” in a company that sells paper in Pennsylvania. Filmed like a documentary, the interactions between the employees are very funny. Well then, there is always this debate: which is the best? The UK series of the US series? Here we are more David Brent than Michael Scott. The emphasis is there for a lot.
