Netflix has now certified newer Pixel phones to play HDR10 content. Netflix videos look better on the Google Pixel 5a and the Google Pixel 6 (Pro). Cell phone owners had previously complained.

Netflix offers HDR10 for new Pixel phones

Some owners of a newer Google smartphone have certainly been waiting for this: Netflix has now officially certified the Pixel 5a and the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro cell phones. So that should Playback of HDR10 content is no longer a problem (Source: Netflix). Some Pixel 6 (Pro) owners have publicly complained since the smartphones were released because Netflix does not use HDR and HDR+ when playing videos.

Many older Pixel phones already support HDR10 content playback on Netflix. The official list now looks like this:

  • Google Pixel 3 and 3XL
  • Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL
  • Google Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G
  • Google Pixel 5
  • Google Pixel 5a 5G
  • Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Netflix provides the basic requirements for HDR10, but users still have to do some work themselves to enable such playback. On the Pixel phone, it must be the Netflix app version 5.0 or later. In addition, a subscription must be booked Ultra HD resolution streaming allowed. In addition, Netflix recommends an Internet connection that offers at least 25 megabits per second permanently. The Pixel phone itself should also be kept up to date by owners to avoid problems.

What do HDR and HDR10 videos offer?
