Need for Speed 2022 has been delayed and here’s why
Are you also looking forward to a new Need for Speed? We also. Unfortunately, we have to wait longer, because Need for Speed 2022 has been postponed.
In 2020, Electronic Arts (EA) released a remaster of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit from 2013. This was only released on the previous generation consoles and was, frankly, a setback. Not the game itself, because I haven’t tried it, but the fact that this title got a remaster. A new title would have been a lot more fun.
That new title would be released in early 2022, early next year. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen either. Need for Speed 2022 has been postponed to a later date. The reason has to do with Criterion Games. This is the developer responsible for the Need for Speed games.
Criterion Games has been brought in to temporarily help EA DICE. The latter studio is working on the new Battlefield. Another big title they are busy with at EA. Apparently they need extra help developing the shooter. Criterion Games unfortunately cannot work on both games at the same time, so Battlefield has been given priority for now.
Now that Need for Speed 2022 has been postponed, you should expect a release in perhaps 2023. That is still a long way off. In comparison, the last real new Need for Speed was Heat and it came out in 2019. It would be a shame if there were such a big gap between the releases of the new title and Heat. However, this seems inevitable. (via Polygon)
