‘My daughter (2) was watching explicit videos of births’

Sure there is sometimes a fuss about screens, but most mothers are secretly overjoyed that those things exist. However, sometimes things go wrong. This is also the case with Monique (39), mother of Mila (5) and Lene (3).

“Lene was a few months old, Mila was just over two and a half. I wanted to take a shower while the baby was in bed, so Mila was allowed on the iPad. She was quite fascinated with babies and gave birth, after the birth of her sister. In childish language I had explained to her how that worked globally, but of course I had not told her about the hat and the brim.

Birth

After my relaxing shower I found Mila bent over over the iPad, videos of childbirth right under her nose. Pretty explicit too. She had discovered that you can say what you want to see through speech. When I looked at her with startled eyes, she exclaimed jokingly, ‘I said I wanted to know how a baby comes out!’”
