‘My children think these are the best family games’

From toys and (read) books to child-friendly restaurants: every week a mother from the Kek Mama editors shares her favorite tips. This time: the favorite family games of editor-in-chief Jannine Berkelaar.

“For the first time since we had children, we didn’t go on holiday to a campsite, but to hotels. Advantage: no shopping, no tidying up, no cooking and a made bed every night. What it also brought was extra family time – you can do it yourself determine whether this is an advantage or disadvantage. Because we had breakfast and dinner in a restaurant and you often have to wait there. Our rescue? Games. Endless games. And we think this is the best.”

Qwixx

A handy game to play at the table, because you don’t need that much space. Everyone has a score card and you have five dice. It’s actually a kind of Yahtzee, but more fun. You can also participate if the other throws and you really have to think tactically which number you cross. This game takes about 10-15 minutes per game.

Yes, I want this game

Uno Junior

The ancient game of bullying never gets old and is fun for young and old. And with the junior edition, children can participate from the age of 3. Another advantage of the junior edition: the jars never last that long.

This makes my kids happy

Color Addict

This game really challenges your brain and is all about speed. Discard your cards as soon as the name of the suit or the color in which the name is written matches the card on top of the discard pile. This game is suitable from the age of 7, because you must of course be able to read.

Just do that

Block Ness

This game is great for older kids who like brain teasers. Make sure your snake gets the longest. You can go over other snakes, but you can’t go under anything. A really fun challenge! Incidentally, not suitable for a restaurant, because it is a large game board.

This game looks fantastic

throw throw burrito

Looking for something more active? Then this game is great. Before you know it, the toy burritos that come with this game will be flying around your ears. It gave us a lot of laughs. And er, it should be clear that we didn’t play this game in a restaurant either.

I want to have!

Skip Boc

We have had Skip Bo for a number of years and we are still not bored. Once your child gets handy with numbers, you can play it together. The aim is to get rid of the pile of cards you get at the beginning of the game by putting the numbers in the correct order. You can be a bit bothered by each other and also have to think a few steps ahead.
