Moving with children: this is how it goes smoothly

Boxes all over the house, a new place to sleep and sometimes even a new school. Moving can be an impressive, but sometimes difficult event for children. To make a move as smooth as possible, here are some tips for moving with children.

Talk to your child

Talk to your child about the move and how they feel about it. Moving is a big change in children’s lives. They can feel different emotions about this, and by talking you discover what your child needs.

Be specific

As fun as the move can be for you, it often causes a lot of unrest with children. So wait to tell until the plans are certain. This will keep your child’s mind a bit calmer.

Explore the area

Spend a day exploring everything around the new house with your child. Look for nice playgrounds, the library and possibly a new school. Children will then feel at home more quickly.

Let your child decide

Whether it’s the color on the wall or the decor: let your child participate in the decision-making process. Involve them in the process and let them make it their own place.

Take care of rest

Rest is an important factor for children. So make sure you don’t involve your child too much in the stress that a move entails.

Moving day babysitter

Plan a number of days when your child goes to the nanny. On these days you can move without screaming and running children around. While the kids are having fun, you are carrying heavy boxes. There has to be a difference.

Invite friends

Once the move is complete and your child’s room is furnished, you can invite your child’s friends. Playing with friends in a new environment will help you get used to it faster.
