Mother shares frustration: ‘There was toothpaste on the mirror, sink and on the window’
And she likes to share it with other parents.
House full of things lying around
Cleaning the bathroom is a thankless job, because a day later Katie’s kids have already made a mess of it. “There was toothpaste on the mirror, the sink and on the window,” says the mother of three. And that wasn’t all, because the trash can overflowed and on the sink were night braces and dirty cotton swabs. On the way down Katie comes even more “I tripped over shoes, laptops, and backpacks that weren’t there minutes ago.”

Convince children to clean up more often
Katie is green and yellow annoyed by the slobs (read: her children) in the house. But they don’t seem to get her hints. “They don’t understand why I raise my voice when I ask them to clean up. Of course they have to learn to be responsible and self-reliant, but cleaning up is part of being part of a community, a family.” With these statements she hopes to convince her children – perhaps against their better judgement – to clean up more often:
- “I’m paying for this house. And that’s really not fun when your house looks like a battlefield. Be proud of your room and your belongings. Is it waste? Please put it in the trash.”
- “A bit of an exaggeration, but: your stuff lying around is going to kill me. I almost tripped over two pairs of sneakers and slipped on spilled yogurt.”
- “There are more of you. Life would be a lot easier if we all cleaned up our own mess.”
- “Hanging up a towel, cleaning up clothes or putting a plate in the dishwasher really doesn’t hurt. What does hurt is the sudden disappearance of your phone or the WiFi password.”
