Most hated series gets second season

No other series has received more hate and negative comments than Velma in recent months. Now streaming giant HBO has confirmed that the controversial Scooby-Doo spin-off is getting a second season.

Despite all criticism: Velma gets a second season

Every child probably knows Scooby-Doo. Since the beginning of the year, however, the focus of attention has been on the spin-off Velma, which focuses on the character of the same name and reinterprets the Scooby-Doo universe. The reorientation of the show, the idiosyncratic humor and especially the fact that Velma now has a dark skin colorwas already discussed controversially in advance.

Just in time for the publication in February 2023, negative reviews also rained down on platforms such as IMDB, where the series currently holds a scathing score of 16 percent. Also on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes it looks just as bad. Here the user score is 7 percent. It is clear that so-called review bombing was carried out at Velma in order to make the series look as bad as possible.

But the international trade press is also not very enthusiastic about the new interpretation and awards an average of 40 percent.

The second season causes even more hate

Streaming provider HBO seems to be satisfied with the series, why Velma will be renewed for a second season:

Under the announcement, tons of users are complaining that Velma will be renewed, while other popular series were canceled early. A user in the comments mainly blames the haters and the many racists for the extension. After all, all the negative hype ultimately made the series successful.

Incidentally, Velma is not yet running in Germany. Since this is a Max production, a release on WOW is likely.
