Barcelona will also be able to organize the telephone fair of the world in the coming years; the Mobile World Congress. Previously, the agreement with the Spanish city in Catalonia ran until 2024, which has now been extended by six years.

MWC will stay in Barcelona for a while

Since 2006, the largest mobile phone fair in the world has been held annually in Barcelona, Spain. Once started on the site of Fira de Barcelona Montjuic, in recent years it has been held in Fira Barcelona Gran Via. The organization has now decided in agreement with the city council that it will keep the fair in Barcelona even longer, this time until at least 2030. John Hoffman, the CEO of GSMA (the organization) has this to say;

“Barcelona is more than just the city for the Mobile World Congress. Thanks to the hospitality of the people here, through MWC we can inspire the mobile community to create something bigger. I couldn’t be happier that Barcelona remains the mobile capital.”

Due to corona, the 2020 and 2021 editions could not take place. This year the fair was continued on a much smaller scale. It remains to be seen whether the Mobile World Congress will be as big as before in the coming years. Many brands and companies have experienced the benefits of holding their own or online events. In July, the GSMA will hold a press conference in which it will provide more details about the future of the exchange and what form it will take. The fair will be held next year from February 27 to March 2, 2023.
