Instagram has an understanding: After years of complaints, the chronological feed should finally return. The order of pictures and videos is determined less by Instagram and more by users.

Instagram: Chronological feed is about to make a comeback

When Instagram introduced an algorithm-based display in 2016, it was criticized from all sides. Just like with Facebook, quite a few users would prefer one chronological order of the contents see. What is published last should be found at the top of the feed, so the objection. Now Instagram is apparently facing a change of heart and the missing view is set to return (source: The Verge).

During a hearing before a Senate subcommittee, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri said that at one new version of the feed is being worked on. Here the contributions of the users are shown in chronological order – in contrast to the current ranking algorithm, which sorts the contributions according to the “preferences of the users”.

Instagram last had a comprehensive and in 2017 momentous change to the feed carried out, in which “recommended content” sometimes came to the fore. In June 2021, it was announced that the iOS app would test the display of additional content in the feed. With any third-party content, users are given the option of marking it as “not interesting”.
