Microsoft’s takeover of Nuance soon validated by Europe

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced it was buying Nuance for $ 16 billion. Such a takeover requires agreements from various regulators and the group behind Windows is set to receive unconditional approval from the European Union’s competition authorities, according to Reuters.

Soon the European green light for a major takeover of Microsoft

This transaction, the most recent in the technology sector, comes against a backdrop of increased regulatory oversight of mergers and acquisitions by tech giants that could wipe out emerging start-ups and potential rivals.

Microsoft announced the Nuance buyout agreement in April, which will strengthen its presence in cloud solutions for healthcare customers. Nuance is a group known for pioneering voice recognition technologies and for helping launch Siri, Apple’s voice assistant.

The European Commission has until December 21 to decide on Microsoft’s takeover of Nuance. The latter is currently in preliminary talks with the British Competition Authority (CMA) before filing a formal request for approval of the transaction. The transaction has already received the regulatory green light in the United States and Australia, with no concessions being offered.
