Météo-France suffered a cyberattack, causing an outage
Météo-France announces that it was the subject of a cyberattack which took place between April 11 in the evening and April 12 in the afternoon. This has prevented Internet users from checking the weather forecast, either on the site or the application.
On his websiteMétéo-France indicates:
Météo-France suffered a denial of service attack on its domain name management system on April 11 and 12. This attack consists in saturating the servers by sending massive requests. This made the websites and the application intended for the general public almost inaccessible. The extranets of institutional and commercial customers containing meteorological information and means of teleworking were also concerned.
Météo-France technical teams mobilized immediately to respond to this attack and succeeded in restoring service in the afternoon of April 12.
The group specifies that the weather forecasting chain has not been disrupted, from the reception of observations to the calculation of digital models on a supercomputer, to the use of data by forecasters. In addition, the company was able to continue to produce and distribute the products, in particular the vigilance card, via social networks and direct mailings to State services.
There is no information on the author of the computer attack and it is not specified whether a complaint will be filed.
