Meta: Cambria mixed reality headset could cost twice as much as Meta Quest 2
One year behind schedule, Meta will introduce its mixed reality headset this year cambria (provisional name). If the crosschecking of rumors and leaks from Meta allowed us to know a little more about the specs of the book – Pancake micro-OLED lenses, resolution a little beyond 2000 x 2000 pixels per eye, true Passthrough system / AR with color display, controllers with induction charging – the XR headset designed for the Pros is still far from having revealed all its secrets.
The Information site was able to glean some additional information. The Cambria helmet would thus be considered a “Chromebook or a laptop for the face” according to one of the people familiar with the matter, in reference to the fact that the helmet could launch online tools and services rather than native applications (pure cloud in short…). The other info concerns the price, and it stings quite a bit. The Information indeed announces a price of 799 dollars.
Fortunately, Meta is working on a second version of the Cambria for 2024, codenamed Funston, which we hope will be a little more accessible. In addition, two genuinely cheaper XR headsets (codenamed Stinson and Cardiff) would be released in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
