Meta announces new interface for profile switching between Instagram and Facebook
US group Meta is currently testing the possibility of making it easier for users to switch between the Instagram and Facebook app. In addition, users should be able to create additional accounts with an existing account in the future. That comes from one official blog post of the company.
Accordingly, Meta wants to introduce a new login interface to make it easier to switch profiles. This would enable Instagram and Facebook users to keep track of their messages. The different profiles should also be visible in one place. The same applies to the respective notifications.
Instagram and Facebook: Multiple accounts with just one account
According to Meta, the new interface for changing profiles is currently being tested on both Android and iOS and on the web. The company is also working on a new form of account registration that will allow users to create additional accounts with an existing account. The company writes:
People who are new to our products can create a Facebook or Instagram account and then use that account to sign up for other accounts.
Users who have both an Instagram and a Facebook account could in future also use the login information for one app to access the other app.
Meta wants to entice you to create more accounts
According to Meta, the changes are initially limited to Instagram and Facebook. However, the company wants to improve the “connected experiences” in all its technologies. This could also mean the subsidiary network WhatsApp. The two new functions should also not be entirely altruistic.
Because with a unified interface for Instagram and Facebook, Meta would also unify the identities of its users across platforms to enable “connected experiences”. In addition, the US group could also boost its user numbers with the new registration options.
Further interconnectedness of the meta-platforms would again make a potential sale of Instagram or WhatsApp a long way off if US regulators act on their threats to break up the company.
