measuring blood pressure with Apple Watch one step closer

There is a good chance that you will be able to measure your blood pressure with the Apple Watch in the future. A patent that Apple has applied for (and received) ensures that we are one step closer.

Measuring blood pressure with Apple Watch is one step closer

If you need to measure your blood pressure now, you need a separate blood pressure monitor. Moreover, you really have to take the time to let the blood pressure monitor do its job properly. Soon that may no longer be necessary and you will actually only need an Apple Watch.

Apple has received a patent on a new way to measure your blood pressure. The patent is pending to be used in a future version of the Beddit sleep monitor. Apple bought Beddit in 2016 and this special band lets you measure your sleep.

You simply place the strip of the Beddit sleep monitor on your mattress before going to sleep. When you lie down in bed, the sleep monitor immediately starts measuring and analyzing.

So Apple first wants to provide this strip with a way to measure your blood pressure. That is good news, because it is quite possible that Apple will also use this technique in other devices. Perhaps Apple can also put these sensors in the strap of the Apple Watch.

More and more health functions for the Apple Watch

Almost every year, the Apple Watch gets new health functions. The Apple Watch Series 8 even got two new sensors. A temperature sensor on the back of the watch (near the skin) and a second sensor just below the display. With these sensors, women can monitor their menstrual cycle.

Of course you can also measure your heart rate with any Apple Watch Series 4 or newer. And is it possible to make an ECG (electrocardiogram) with most Apple Watches, on which you can see your heart rate.

According to Apple, this app can detect atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), but not predict a heart attack. Nevertheless, the conclusion of a recent study is that it is possible to recognize a heart attack using the Apple Watch.
