mBank alerts its clients to fraudulent phone calls

Unfortunately, fraudulent phone calls, like fraudulent emails, are not uncommon today. This direct type of communication is still a common tool for various fraudsters. The Slovak branch of a foreign bank also draws the attention of its clients to similar cases mBank on its website and in the mobile application. At the same time, he advises how to defend them.

What is the principle of fraudulent phone calls?

Fraudulent phone calls are also professionally referred to as vishing. Its essence is a telephone conversation by which the attacker tries to obtain sensitive data from the bank’s client (personal data, Internet banking passwords or payment card numbers). The SMS message also includes a telephone number from which the attacker will contact him. An attacker could also call directly and claim that, for example, a computer or smartphone that a bank customer uses to manage a bank account is at risk.

Of course, the attacker introduces himself as his bank. In order to gain the client’s trust, he asks for the authorization code of the SMS just delivered. It may also require a credit card number, CVV / CVC code or photo ID. He will use this data to fraudulently obtain funds from the client’s account. The attacker ends the call, saying that the suspicious transaction did not take place due to the bank’s swift action. Alternatively, the client’s computer is safe. There are also cases where an attacker can delete a victim from installing an unauthenticated fraudulent application.

How to protect against vishing?

As similar cases increase, the bank advises how to protect itself from them. First and foremost, you need to use common sense and be careful. You should look at the stranger who is calling you as if he were addressing you on the street. Being represented on behalf of a large and well-known company does not necessarily mean that it actually works for it.

Never provide such strangers with personal, authorization, or financial information, whether by telephone, email, or by posting it on an unknown website. And especially in case of doubt, always call the telephone support of the bank, which is listed on its website, directly. In the case of Banks, it is called. mLink with phone number 0850 60 60 50.
