Mathilde lost her son (2) and husband in two years
Two years ago, Mathilde Beverloo – de Rooij experienced the most intense thing that can happen to a parent: she lost her eldest son Jona (2). Last week she received another inhuman blow when she had to say goodbye to her partner Sebastian. He died on April 4 from the effects of cancer.
Friends, family and followers of Mathilde, who regularly posts candid messages about her family on social media, were so touched by this event that they started a donation campaign. More than 240,000 euros has already been collected in four days.’ You are all right, money is not a substitute. But it also gives me peace. And I am very grateful for that,” Mathilde writes about this on Instagram.
Gratitude
She continues: ‘I am broken, I feel alone and empty. And yet I also feel the gratitude. For the love. Our love, so intense. I was allowed to be there for him, I was allowed to be everything, together with our boys. But how he suffered and how bravely he bore it, helped by our Father in Heaven. All memories hurt. The beautiful, because it will never be so again. The sad one too, because it was so much pain and suffering. But in the end I know that love will win over all that hurts.’
Network
Under the post it is full of heartwarming reactions. ‘Dear dear Mathilde, you write so beautifully! And how wonderful that you have such a nice network of valuable people around you. You and Benjamin are so awarded the beautiful amount, some peace to bear this heavy grief and to recover after all those months of worries. Sebastian will watch over you with Jonah like 2 beautiful shining stars.’
