Mascha Feoktistova got PTSD after traumatic birth: ‘Therapy does a lot of good’

In Happy in Shape she tells candidly about her decision to go to therapy.

Traumatic Childbirth

Mascha’s delivery was anything but smooth because of shoulder dystocia, a complication in which a baby’s shoulder gets stuck behind the mother’s pubic bone. Mila Poppy was born with a broken shoulder as a result. “After my traumatic birth, I was diagnosed with PTSD,” says Mascha, who is now receiving EMDR therapy. “That does me a lot of good. It was estimated that I would need six to ten sessions. I have now had ten and I have decided to continue.”

Therapy is also a way for Mascha to ‘maintain’ her mental health. “I have a pretty intense life with vlogging, being recognized on the street and everything that comes with it. It’s nice to be able to talk about it with a professional,” she continues. She advises everyone to go to therapy, whether you are struggling with something or not. “I think a lot of people are walking around with unprocessed traumas and they hinder you in your life unwise.”
