Marvel blockbusters are no longer just in the cinema
The wait is finally over. Marvel’s latest film will start on Disney+ in a few days – without a VIP surcharge, directly as part of the regular streaming flat rate. Anyone who hasn’t seen “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in cinemas will soon have the chance to do so on television.
Update from January 08, 2023: A little later than before, but not as late as feared – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever starts at Disney+ from February 1, 2023 and thus 84 days after its theatrical release in November last year (watch on Disney+). In the meantime, the start has been confirmed by Disney + and the film is also advertised accordingly on the streaming service:
The last film was a complete success for Marvel and Disney, even if it “only” made a little more than 820 million US dollars at the box office. As a reminder: The first part with Chadwick Boseman, who unfortunately died much too early, earned 1.3 billion US dollars worldwide. Incidentally, only “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in the MCU was even more successful than the Black Panther sequel in 2022 – it flushed more than 955 million US dollars into Disney’s coffers.
Original article:
The chance is lost because the current Marvel blockbuster “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is no longer coming to Disney + until the end of December. Why? The current preview does not include the new movie. If Disney isn’t planning a bigger Christmas surprise, which is unlikely, then it will be that was it for 2022.
Disney+ is no longer bringing Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in December
However, quite a few Marvel fans were hoping for a start at Disney + by the end of December. After all, for example, only 47 days passed between the start of the cinema and streaming of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness”. As a result, a start of the last Marvel hit between Christmas and New Year would have been quite possible. Nothing will come of it now. But when can you expect the premiere on Disney+?
Another look back: Thor 4 took Disney 64 days, Shang-Chi 70 days and the Eternals 68 days. Ergo: It shouldn’t be until mid-January at the earliest. If we may type: Friday 14th or 21st January would be conceivable if Disney decides to start just before the weekend.
There is a first foretaste in the trailer:
Recently, however, there have also been repeated discussions that one could decide to start even later in February in order not to torpedo any cinema sales. Very possible, but currently unconfirmed. In any case, the start of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on Disney + should still be there well before February 17, 2023 take place. That’s when the MCU’s next movie hits theaters – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Earlier streaming start for a fee excluded
A so-called VIP access, with which Disney + customers can see the film earlier for an extra charge, will no longer be available. This tool for increasing sales was only used occasionally during the corona pandemic and is no longer used at Disney+. When “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” starts at Disney +, we might find out at the end of December, when the new films and series for January are announced. If the Marvel hit is still not there, it will probably not be until February.
